Marques Ogden is a former NFL player who played five years as an offensive lineman with the Titans, Bills, Ravens, and Jaguars. Today, he is a keynote speaker, executive coach, and corporate trainer.
Marques hired Misty Buck to help him in such areas as professional development, mental strengthening, mental health awareness and clarity.
“When you’ve played the game for a number of years, it becomes a part of your DNA,” says Marques. “Misty made me aware of things that football taught me that are acceptable in life after football like discipline, focus, hard work, and perseverance. But, other things like aggressiveness and the need to impose your will are not acceptable and she gave me some great tools to help me manage so I can always be cognitive and not emotional in my everyday life.”
Although Marques has overcome adversity many times to get to where he is today, he recognizes that growth is constant.
While football taught Marques many positive things, there are some things he is working to break away from such as the instinct to react to avoid coming off as “weak.” During this process, Marques is learning a lot about himself so that he can pause before he reacts (something most people do not do.) This includes creating the awareness of how to acknowledge and accept emotions so that he can then make choices that are best aligned to help him move forward in every day strenuous situations. Perhaps most importantly, Marques is also practicing extending grace to himself for the progress he continues to make in all areas of his life.
