It’s true. We all carry some type of burden. Emotional or otherwise, they can be staring you right in the eyes or buried somewhere inside, but we carry them just the same. You may feel it somewhere in your body weighing you down. Or, maybe it’s a nagging thought or just discomfort you haven’t yet defined. Burdens can feel like complex heavy problems that we tote around from place-to-place and even in our sleep. It’s an answer or a resolution we haven’t yet found and the knowledge that we must persevere whether we feel like it or not. Even if you can’t change your circumstances, you can let go of your burdens with emotional and mental wellness work.

You may feel troubled by things like:

• A decision you have to make
• Work you have to do
• A conversation that needs to happen
• A goal that you need to, or want to, reach
• Emotions you have to come to terms with
• A physical injury or illness
• Responsibility for something or someone
• Finances
• Expectations
• Family or relationships

A burden can be something that causes you stress, sadness, overwhelm, confusion, or anything that feels like a weight you carry. That weight, however, is emotional and mental, which means that there are ways to lighten those thoughts and feelings.

How to let go of your burdens in two steps:

Step 1: Make a list of 10 things you are thankful for. These can include achievements and things as simple as your physical ability to write the list. I bet you can come up with way more than 10 items.

“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.”

Anthony Robbins

Gratitude is a starting place because it helps you refocus on what is positive in your life. However, it won’t make things your problems or worries just disappear because occasional discomfort is part of life and growth. So, what should you do next?

I can’t tell you how to make your burdens go away in one blog article, but I can give you a tool for learning to handle them and coexist with them as you go through the motions of working through whatever you need to work through.

Step 2: Listen to this meditation to help you gain confidence and relax when you are feeling burdened.

Note any thoughts or emotions that came up for you during this exercise.
